Head coach Traci Stephenson has the Lady Storm charged up and ready for a run at the NWAC Volleyball Championship. This years tournament is being held at the Greater Tacoma Comvention and Trade Center in Tacoma, Washington. They open the tournament on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 pm against Highline Community College from Des Moines, Washington. Highline, who is the #2 seed from the Western Region posted a 31-15 overall record this season and a 11-3 league record. The Storm who are the #3 seed from the Southern Region go into the match with a 23-14 record and a 7-3 league mark. A Storm win would result in a second round match at 12:30 on Friday afternoon against the winner of the Blue Mountain/Skagit Valley match. A first match loss would result in a second match Thursday night at 8:15 pm against the loser of the Blue Mountain/Skagit Valley match. Chemeketa Athletic Director, Cassie Belmodis, is pleased to welcome the newest Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Kevin McCarrell. As a former NCAA basketball player McCarrell brings 17 years of playing and coaching experience to Chemeketa Community College. As native of Wichita, Kansas he chose to stay in state and play both at a two-year and four-year school before graduating. McCarrell earned numerous collegiate awards and went on to play at the semi-professional level.
Following his career as a player, McCarrell coached at the high school, community college, and four-year levels in Canada. Since moving to Salem, Oregon, McCarrell has coached several AAU tournament teams , run camps, and offered private lessons. Coach McCarrell joined our Chemeketa family as an assistant women’s basketball coach during the 2013-2014 season. Chemeketa Athletics has high hopes for both Coach McCarrell and the women’s basketball program this upcoming year and for years to come.

The Storm softball team made it to day two in the NWAACC Championship Tournament before being knocked out by Douglas Community College in a 4-2 loss. In the first game of the tournament on Friday, May 16th Chemeketa faced Treasure Valley Community College where the Storm struggled with their offensive game and lost 8-0. The Storm then fell to the loser's bracket and won in an afternoon game on Friday, 7-2 against Everett Community College. Battling in the loser's bracket the Storm played again on Saturday morning against Spokane Community College and won a tough game 3-2. The next game on Saturday afternoon was against Douglas Community College where the Storm lost 4-2 and subsequently was then knocked out of the NWAACC Championship Tournament, tying for 7th place out of the 16 participating teams in the NWAACC Championship Tournament.
Sophomore, Jordan Martin (Salem, OR) and freshman, Janie Carr (Salem, OR) earned 2nd Team All-Region honors while sophomores, Jessica Hotaling (Canby, OR) and Destinee Chang (Waimanalo, HI) earned First Team All-Region honors. Chang, the Storm's offensive leader, also earned NFCA All-America honors.
Chemeketa softball ends their season with a 26-20 overall record and will graduate 10 sophomores this year.

The Chemeketa softball team has earned a spot in the NWAACC Championship Tournament. The Tournament begins this Friday, May 16 and will be held at Delta park in Portland, OR. The lady Storm, seeded seventh in the overall tournament will play against the 10th seeded team, Treasure Valley, at 10am on Friday on field one at Delta park.

The lady Storm came away with two huge victories on Monday vs. Clark Community College. In a double header match up, Chemeketa won the first game with a score of 13-2. Multiple players from the Storm roster hit above .300 on the game and there were a total of 21 hits for the team. Sophomore, Emilie Leach (Salem, OR) pitched a complete game for the win and she and the defense only allowed two runs scored. In the second game, the Storm defense impressively kept Clark from scoring any runs. Chemeketa scored ten runs and again had a strong offensive presence.
The two wins on Monday solidified Chemeketa's post season and earned them a 4th place finish in the Southern Region Division. The top four teams from each division move on to the NWAACC Championship Tournament set to begin Friday, May 16 at Delta Park in Portland, OR.

Former Chemeketa baseball pitcher Zac Rosscup was a First Team Southern Region pitching selection during the 2009 season with Chemeketa. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 28th round in the 2009 amateur draft.
Rosscup, 25, joins the Chicago Cubs roster for the second time this season. He served as the 26th man in the second game of a double header April 16 at Yankee Stadium, and pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. At Iowa, the lefty was 1-0 with a 4.26 ERA in five appearances.

The lady Storm played the Lakers of Southwestern Oregon Community College this past weekend on their home field at Wallace Marine park and split 1-1. Chemeketa won the first game of the day five to four. Sophomore, Destinee Chang (Waimanalo, HI.) went two for three with a run batted in. Chang is batting a stellar .434 on the season. Chemeketa edged out the win and had five hits to Southwestern's four. The winning pitcher was sophomore, Emilie Leach (Salem, OR.). The second game of the day was a bit more challenging for the Storm as they lost to the Lakers 12-5. Chemeketa is now (4-8) in Southern Region Conference play and (19-15) overall. Next up, the lady Storm will travel to Clackamas Community College on Wednesday, April 30th game is set for 3pm.

The Storm baseball team headed to Coos Bay, Or. last weekend and matched up against the Lakers of Southwestern Oregon Community College. On Friday, April 18th the Storm earned two wins in a double header day, winning 5-4 in nine innings in game one. Freshman, 2nd baseman, Scooter Turin (Sandy, OR.) went three for three, with two runs scored in the game. Sophomore, Tyler Snider (Salem, OR.) came away as the winning pitcher and the team had 12 hits to the Lakers six in the game. In the next game of the night Chemeketa again came out on top winning 4-2. The Storm had seven hits to the Lakers two and sophomore Martin Brown (Madras, OR.) pitched a complete game.
Chemeketa struggled on Saturday, April 19th against the Lakers and ended the visit with two losses. The first game of the day brought a 2-6 loss for the Storm. Chemeketa hit well, only striking out twice but stranding nine base runners overall. In the last game of the visit to Coos Bay, the Storm fell by a score of 2-3. Chemeketa scored their only two runs in the top of the first inning. The Lakers scored the winning run in the bottom of the 6th and Chemeketa could not respond in the top of the 7th. The Storm left a runner on first base and had two batters strike out in the inning to end the game.
Chemeketa is now 5-10 in the Southern Region Division and 13-15 overall. Next, Chemeketa will face the Saints of Mt. Hood Community College. A double header is scheduled for today, Friday, April 25th set to start at 4pm in Gresham at Oslund Field. The Storm returns home on Saturday, April 26th to finish the series vs. Mt. Hood with a double header set to begin at 2pm.

After an eight game road stand over five days, the Storm softball team won six out of eight games this past week playing against seven different teams.
On Friday, April 11th the Lady Storm matched up against Everett Community College and lost a close game 10-11. With two outs left in the game, in the bottom of the 7th inning, Everett managed to score the winning run.
Next up, the Storm faced Walla Walla Community College on Saturday, April 12th in a double header day where the Storm came away with a 7-4 win. Sophomore, Destinee Chang (Waimanalo, HI.) went two for three, hitting a home run, and earning two RBI's in the game. The winning pitcher was sophomore, Brauna Parr (Winston, OR.). The Storm then played Columbia Basin College and won again with a score of 9-4. The Storm ended the day with two wins. Freshman, Janie Carr (Salem, OR.) went two for three, hitting a home run, and batting in three runs in the game. The winning pitcher was sophomore, Jesscia Hotaling (Canby, OR.).
On Sunday, the Storm went two and one on the day losing to Spokane Community College in another one run loss, but rebounded with an excellent second game, winning against Bellevue Community College with a score of 12-2. Chemeketa had a total of 14 hits in the game and sophomore, Emilie Leach (Salem, OR.) pitched a complete game for the win. The second game of the day, and the final game of the road trip, Chemeketa played against Olympic College winning the game 6-5. Destinee Chang (Waimanalo, HI.) drove in the winning run on a walk off single.
Next up, Chemeketa travels to Mt. Hood Community College to play a double header on Saturday, April 19th, with the first pitch to be thrown at noon.

The Storm baseball program struggled to find their offense this past weekend against the Penguins of Clark Community College. However, The Storm managed to earn a win on Friday, April 11th at home with a score of 3-2 after seven innings. Third baseman Brenden Shaffer (Salem Or.) went one for three, with a run scored, and an RBI in the game. Sophomore pitcher, Brady Williams (Ridgefield, Or.) earned the win on the mound and is now three and one on the season with an ERA of 2.01.
Next up, Chemeketa travels to Southwestern Oregon Community College on Friday, April 18th and 19th for a four game series. First pitch to be thrown at 2pm in a double header on Friday, Saturday's double header to start at noon.

Chemeketa competed against the Cougars of Clackamas in a two game series at Wallace Marine Park on Tuesday, April 8th that ended in two losses for the Storm. In the first game of the day, the Storm had no hits, but only two strikeouts against them. Still, Chemeketa could not get their bats going and ended with the loss. The second of the two games was better offensively with the lady Storm producing five runs, with a home run by Destinee Chang (Waimanalo, HI) who was three for four with a run scored. The Storm head to Tam O' Shanter field in Longview, Washington to face off against the Red Devils of Lower Columbia College in a double header to begin at 3pm today.

After a losing series to Clackamas Community College at the beginning of the month, the Storm baseball team battled with Lane Community College last week winning one of four games against the Titans and tying a game for a 1-2-1 result in the series.
Next up, Chemeketa will face the Penguins of Clark Community College on Friday, April 11th at 2pm at Chemeketa and then head to Clark for a double header to finish the series at Kindsfather field on Saturday, April 12th with the first pitch to be thrown at 1pm.

Chemeketa Storm Baseball began conference play this past weekend and came away 1-1 to start. The Strom matched up against Clackamas Community College on Sunday, March 30th in a double header. The first game of the day ended with a 5-7 loss for the Storm. Chemeketa had a 4-2 lead headed into the 5th inning when Clackamas scored five runs and came up on the winning end of the scoreboard. Chemeketa could not match the Cougars in their final attempts to put runs on the board. The Storm had 12 hits to the Cougars seven, but it was not enough to regain the lead and come out on top.
In the second game of the day, the Chemeketa Storm Baseball team came away with a 1-0 win. Chemeketa recorded four hits with one run while the Cougars were held to no hits and zero runs scored. Chemeketa's Martin Brown (Madras HS/ Madras, OR) threw a complete game no-hitter striking out three batters. Brown and the Storm defense did not allow a base runner until the seventh inning. Jacob Riddell (West Salem HS/Salem, OR) scored what proved to be the winning run in the third inning after he singled then stole both second and third base. Justin Adams (Sandy HS/ Sandy, OR) drove in Riddell with a single over first base for the game's only RBI.
The Storm is now 1-1 in conference play with an overall record of (9-6). The Storm face Clackamas once again on Wednesday, April 2nd at 1pm in Clackamas on the Cougar's home field.

The Chemeketa Storm Softball Team had another great weekend with two more wins in the books. The Storm had two pre-season road games last weekend, matching up against Grays Harbor Community College and Centralia Community College. Chemeketa continued it's offensive command with 27 hits and 20 runs in the two games.
In the first match up against Grays Harbor, The Storm won 10-3. Emilie Leach was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts. Destinee Chang went 2 for 3 with a double, home run, and four RBI's in the game. Allie Anderegg as well had 4 RBI's in the match up against the Chokers of Grays Harbor.
Next, The Storm faced The Trailblazers of Centralia Community College and came out with a 10-4 win against The Trailblazers. Emilie Leach again was the winning pitcher in the circle on the day. Jordan Martin went 2-4 with two home runs and four RBI's in the game.
The Storm will play at Delta Park in Portland this weekend. The first pitch will be on Saturday, March 22nd at 1pm against Olympic Community College. Next, Chemeketa will square off against Grays Harbor at 3pm. On Sunday, March 23rd The Storm will be back on the field against Everett Community College at 10am and Centralia Community College to follow at 12pm.

Chemeketa Athletics is pleased to welcome the newest Head Men’s Soccer Coach, Oscar Monteblanco. Monteblanco is no stranger to Chemeketa; in 2008 he helped start the Women’s Soccer program. In his two-year stint at Chemeketa, Monteblanco took his team to the final four in the NWAACC Tournament and earned a Southern Region Championship. Monteblanco says, “As the new coach at Chemeketa, I hope to empower our players to achieve their full potential, and to bring our program back to where it belongs…on top!”
Coach Monteblanco originally hails from Lima, Peru where he played with Universitario de Deportes before moving to the United States in the early 1980s. Monteblanco has an impressive resume having worked with multiple club teams, community college teams, NAIA teams, and at the highest level, the Portland Timbers. Most recently, Coach Monteblanco earned Coach of the Year honors in the Portland Timber Olympic Development Program.
Monteblanco is prepared and excited to rejoin the Storm family and says, “I love this game, and the opportunities that it has given me. But more than anything, I love to teach the game.” Coach Monteblanco is also a consultant for an overseas law firm. He resides here in town with his twin daughters and his wife Zemula Fleming, a local artist.

In the home opener last night the Chemeketa Storm Men's Baseball Team played two night games against the Linfield Wildcats JV Baseball Team. In the first game of the evening the The Storm came out on the losing end in a 4-6 loss in nine innings. However, in the 2nd match up against The Wildcats, Chemeketa pulled out the win in the bottom of the 10th inning winning 3-2.
In the bottom of the 9th inning Sophomore, Ryan Snow hit a single and then stole 2nd base putting himself in scoring position. Next up to bat, Gehrett Moser drove in Snow to tie the game 2-2. In the bottom of the 10th inning with the bases loaded, Justin Gardner drove in the winning run to make the final score 3-2. Notable pitching on the night for The Storm Baseball team were Tyler Snider and Cody Allison. The Chemeketa Baseball team now has a record of 3-4-1 and play George Fox JV in a double header at Chemeketa on Wednesday, March 19th with the first pitch at 5pm.

The Lady Storm Softball Team played this past weekend and dominated, winning 4 on the road games. Chemeketa met up with The Bulldogs of Bellevue Community College on Friday evening in Washington and stole the game in the bottom of the 7th, scoring two runs when needed and winning the game 2-1. The Storm had six hits with no errors and the Bulldogs had five hits with one error ending the game.
In a double header Friday, The Storm next matched up against Centralia Community College, crushing The Trailblazers 12-1 in six innings and ending their day 2-0.
Saturday, Chemeketa came right back with another powerful performance earning 17 runs to Edmonds Community College's five. The lady Storm had 17 hits with 17 runs in 5 innings dominating the scoreboard. In the last game of the road trip Saturday, Chemeketa played South Puget Sound winning with a score of 11-3 in 5 innings.
All weekend Chemeketa's offense was fast and furious. The overall record for the Lady Storm Softball Team is 4-2. Next up, Chemeketa will play in Centralia, Washington against The Trailblazers on March 15th.

The Chemeketa Storm Baseball Team went on the road for the first time in this 2014 season and came away with a record of 2-3. The Storm is now 2-3-1 in 2014.
Chemeketa was hosted this past weekend by Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Oregon. The Storm played in a late game on Thursday night against the Treasure Valley Community College Chukars losing 0-1. Chemeketa had three hits to Treasure Valley's six with each team recording an error in the game.
On Friday, The Storm faced off against the Mariner's of Vancouver Island Baseball Institute in a double header day. The Storm came away with the victory of 5-4. Chemeketa had ten hits with three errors recorded in the game and Brenden Shaffer had the game winning RBI single in the 9th inning to put The Storm on top and come away with the win.
Next up in the double header Friday, The Storm matched up again with The Chukars of Treasure Valley Community College. Chemeketa fell to the Chukars 3-8 with only seven hits but had no errors recorded in the game.
Saturday's play started another match up with The Mariner's, where The Storm rattled off 12 runs to Vancouver Island's six, winning both games against Vancouver Island Baseball Institute. In the last game on Saturday, and of the trip, Chemeketa fell again to Treasure Valley 0-1. The Storm had four errors to the Chukars one but it was a scoreless game all the way to the bottom of the 8th inning when Treasure Valley finally was able to put one run on the board.

Both The Men's & Women's Chemeketa Basketball Teams ended their seasons this past week at the NWAACC Championship Tournament. The women's and men's team had successful seasons earning trips to the NWAACC Championship tournaments and a shot at being the #1 school in the NWAACC Conference.
The Lady Storm had a tough loss in the first game of the tournament, losing to Lower Columbia College 64-69 to start the tournament off. The loss knocked them out of contention for first place but they were still on the road to a possible 7th place finish. They next played Peninsula College and came out with a victory 53-51. Then, The Storm faced off against Bellevue Community College losing 53-61 ending their great 2013-2014 season and finishing up being a top 16 NWAACC Conference basketball team.
The Chemeketa Men's Basketball team competed hard in the NWAACC Championship Tournament as did The Lady Storm, but had an extra win placing them in 8th Place in the NWAACC Conference to end the 2013-2014 season. The men's team first played Clark Community College losing 77-87 in the first round and without a chance to repeat last years first place finish in the NWAACC Conference. Next up, they played Columbia Basin College winning 86-83. Following the win against Columbia Basin the men faced Big Bend Community College and won another exciting, close game 83-77 and a chance for a 7th place finish. On Tuesday morning, the men challenged Treasure Valley Community College and finished their season losing 80-87 and finishing the season with an 8th place finish in the NWAACC Conference.

Both the Men's & Women's Basketball Teams have made it to day three in the NWAACC Championship Tournament at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, Washington.
The Lady Storm lost a tough, late scheduled game at 10pm on Saturday night, losing 64-69 to the Red Devils of Lower Columbia Community College placing Chemeketa in the consolation bracket and fighting for a chance for 7th in the NWAACC Championship Tournament. In another late game on Sunday night, The Lady Storm faced The Peninsula Pirates and won a thrilling, close game 53-51 to survive in the tournament and continue on to play today, Monday, March 3rd at noon against The Bellevue Bulldogs. The winner of this game plays for 7th place tomorrow, Tuesday, March 4th at 10am.
Our Chemeketa Storm Men's Basketball Team has followed the same road as the ladies and lost in the first round to the Penguins of Clark Community College 77-87 on Saturday evening. They next played The Hawks of Columbia Basin and won by three with a score of 86-83 to stay alive. The men will play The Vikings of Big Bend today with tip off at noon. The Chemeketa Men's Basketball Team had it's biggest win of the season on Monday night when the team faced off against The Mt. Hood Saints at home and won a very physical and emotional game 101-93 to solidify their 4th place spot in the Southern Region Division, and take a trip to Kennewick, Washington to play in the NWAACC Championship Tournament March 1st thru 4th. The men will face the Penguins of Clark Community College on Saturday, March 1st at 6pm at the Toyota Center. The Storm won again in a close game, 64-63 on Saturday afternoon at the Storm Center against Lane Community College to end their regular season play. Chemeketa took 3rd place in the Southern Region Division with a record of 8-4 and will be matched up against Lower Columbia Community College from the West Region Division, who finished 2nd with a record of 14-2. Ryan Thompson who is a senior, right handed pitcher, for Campbell University graduated from Chemeketa in 2012 and received ALL NWAACC South Region Team honers while playing for the Storm. Thompson was last season's Big South Pitcher of the Year and is the 2014 conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year, he has also been named as a Louisville Slugger Preseason Second Team member and NCBWA Third Team All-American. The Storm alum also earned All-American nods from Louisville Slugger and the American Baseball Coaches Association after last season.

The Storm Women's Basketball Program split their last two games 1-1 and have two regular season games left in the season to clinch the 4th place spot in the Southern Region Division and earn a birth to the NWAACC Championship Tournament in Kennewick, Washington March 1st-4th. The Lady Storm traveled to South Western Oregon Community College on Saturday, February 15th and brought home a huge win in overtime 64-61. They then traveled to Umpqua Community College on Monday, February 17th where they fell to the Riverhawks 49-66. Next up, The Lady Storm travel to Portland Community College tonight, Wednesday, February 19th with tip off at 5:30pm. With a win tonight on the Panthers home court Chemeketa will earn the 4th place standing in the Southern Region Division and a birth to the NWAACC Tournament.

The Storm Men's Basketball Program is 8-4 with two games left in regular season play. The Storm traveled to South Western Oregon Community College on Saturday, February 15th where they pulled off the win 89-81 and then traveled to Umpqua Community College on Monday, February 17th where they lost in a close game 88-93. The Storm Men's Basketball Program is tied in 2nd place with Mt. Hood, SW Oregon, and Clackamas in the Southern Region Division with only 2 regular season games left. The men will travel to Portland Community College tonight, Wednesday, February, 19th with game time set for 7:30pm and then host Lane Community College on Saturday, February 22nd to end their regular season play. The next two games are crucial to the men moving on to the NWAACC Championship Tournament March 1st-4th in Kennewick, Washington. With four schools tied for 2nd place and Portland Community College clinging to a one game lead for first place, it's anyone's guess who will fill the four top spots in the Southern Region Division with births to the NWAACC Tournament.

Both the men's & women's basketball teams earn wins at home last night to keep them in contention for a birth to the NWAACC Championship Tournament March 1st thru the 4th in Kennewick, Washington.
The Lady Storm edged out the Cougars with a final score of 60-54. Chemeketa had a double digit lead on Clackamas but the Cougars were able to come back with a chance in the 2nd half. However, The Storm rallied back and won the game. This puts Chemeketa in 3rd place in the Southern Region Division with only 4 regular season games left. Next up, Chemeketa will play at South Western Oregon Community College at 2pm on Saturday, February 15th.
The Chemeketa Storm Men's Basketball Team won in a thrilling overtime win against Clackamas Community College with a score of 109 to 108. With one second left on the clock in regulation play Chemeketa inbounded the ball from the far court and put up a missed shot that was fouled on. The Storm shot and made the two free throws tying the score at 97 to 97 to go into overtime. With this win the Storm are now in a three way tie for first place with SWOCC and PCC in the Southern Region Division. Next up the men travel to South Western Oregon Community College on Saturday, February 15th with tip off at 4pm.

The mighty Lady Storm surged past the Mt. Hood Saints in Gresham on Wednesday, February 5th with a final score of 54-51. This kicked off the Storm's second half of the season and they are currently in the 4th place spot in the Southern Region Division. The top four teams from the Southern Region Division will make it to the NWAACC Championships March 1st thru the 4th in Kennewick, Washington.
The Men's Basketball Team fell to the Saints in overtime, losing the contest 102-105. This puts The Storm in five way tie for first place in the Southern Region Division. Next up both the Men's and Women's Basketball Teams host the Clackamas Cougars on Wednesday, February 12th at 5:30 for Women's tip off and 7:30 for Men's tip off in the Storm Center.

The Chemeketa Men's Basketball Team earned another win last Saturday afternoon, beating the Linn Benton Roadrunners with a score of 89-63. The Storm played exceptionally well attacking the Roadrunners zone inside and dominating the glass. After being in a three way tie for first in the Southern Region Division the men have narrowed the gap and are now in a two way tie for first place with Portland Community College, who they will see in this second half of the season at PCC on the 19th of February at 7:30pm. Next up, the men face Mt. Hood on the Saints home court this Wednesday, February 5th at 7:30pm and then travel to Umpqua Community College on Saturday, February 8th, tip off at 4pm.

The Storm Women's Basketball Team won against Portland Community College (70-46) last Wednesday but fell to Lane Community College (55-71) this past Saturday. The women's team is now 3-3 in league standings and 4th place in the Southern Region Division. The Lady Storm will next visit Mt. Hood Community College Wednesday, February 5th at 7:30pm.

The Chemeketa Storm Men's Basketball Team dropped two games last week against Portland Community College (89-99) and Lane Community College (65-68) putting them in a three way tie for first place in the Southern Region Division. Next up the men will battle Linn Benton Community College at 4pm at home on Saturday, February 1st.
