Picture of Barney Watson.Barney Watson, enology instructor, was co-owner and winemaker of Tyee Wine Cellars, a small family-owned Willamette Valley winery from 1985 to 2005. He has an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley and a master's degree in Enology and Viticulture from the University of California, Davis. After working in wineries in Napa and Sonoma valleys he moved to Oregon in 1976 in order to work with the developing wine industry. Barney was a senior instructor and enology extension specialist at Oregon State University for 28 years where he managed the OSU experimental winery, collaborated in applied enology and viticulture research trials, and taught winemaking classes. He is a professional member of the American Society for Enology and Viticulture (ASEV) since 1976 and was a Director Elect from 2000-2003 and co-founder and past President of the Northwest Chapter of the ASEV. Barney also co-organized four Joint Burgundy-California-Oregon Winemaking Symposia from 1997-2002. He is a regular member of the Oregon Winegrowers Association since 1985 and author of a chapter in the Oregon Winegrape Growers Guide entitled Evaluating Winegrape Maturity in Oregon. In 2003 Barney was awarded the Oregon Winegrowers Association Lifetime Achievement Award.

Picture of Al Macdonald. Al MacDonald is a vineyard owner, growing winegrapes in the Willamette Valley of Oregon since 1982. He has served the industry as Chair of the Oregon Wine Advisory Board and the Oregon Winegrowers Association, and president of LIVE. Al is a current member of the American Society of Enology and Viticulture. He has presented information on Oregon's LIVE program at International conferences in Greece and Portugal and at an Alternative Viticulture conference in Pennsylvania. Al has also lectured on Pinot noir production in Oregon at the California Wine Symposium, and Sustainable Viticulture at the 5th International Symposium on Cool Climate Viticulture and Oenology in Melbourne, Australia. He is the co-author of two chapters in the Oregon Winegrape Growers Guide, Marketing and Contracts and Sustainable Viticulture in Oregon.

Picture of Bob Sogge. Bob Sogge is a pioneer in the Oregon wine industry, and has taught wine classes for about 35 years mentoring over 700 students. Because of his photography abilities and wine knowledge, he has produced wine related photography for wineries, brokers and wholesalers. During stints as a sales representative and manager for two wholesale wine businesses, Bob traveled to many of the premium wine growing areas of the world to select wines for import. He is an active member of the International Society of Wine Educators. Bob chaired the 2001 annual convention that was held in Eugene, Oregon and presented a conference session, "Oregon from the Inside" in 2005. Bob currently teaches two courses, Wine Appreciation and Wines of the World, and authored the adopted textbook, "Wine: An Introduction to Study," for these classes.

Picture of Patrick McElligott.Patrick McElligott grew up on a fourth generation Eastern Oregon ranch and entered the Oregon wine business in 1980 by managing the Amity Vineyards tasting room. He has managed the Oregon Wine Tasting Room from December 1980 to the present. Patrick's specialty has been blending and quality control work for a number of Oregon wineries, and he also has outside sales experience in several southern and eastern U.S. states. He is a seasoned wine judge at Oregon and Washington competitions, but has also conducted a formal tasting of 26 Oregon wines for 200 at Wharton Business College in conjunction with the Philadelphia Enquirer. Patrick has also been a long-time member of two prominent tasting groups, one for world class wines and one for domestic and European wines. Patrick is the instructor for Wines of the Pacific Northwest, Sensory Evaluation of Wine Varietals and Sensory Evaluation of Wine Components.

Juan Pablo Valot is employed at Silvan Ridge/Hinman Vineyards in Eugene. He teaches five non-credit, six-hour workshops for the Latino vineyard workforce. These include Winegrape Canopy and Fruit Management, Winegrape Winter Pruning, Winegrape Vine Physiology, Vineyard Sprayer Basics, Tractor/Farm Equipment Safety Training, and one eight-hour Pesticide Applicator Training.

Pat Lundeen is co-owner of a small vineyard on 24 acres in Yamhill County, Oregon and has been a wine enthusiast for more than 25 years. She was a student in Chemeketa's Vineyard Management/Winemaking Program and has completed the vineyard management practices series of classes. As part of the research for owning and managing a vineyard, Pat has visited over 100 Oregon vineyards and wineries and has developed a thorough understanding of different management structures and business models. She teaches Wine Industry Exploration, a three credit course, which is an elective in the Vineyard Management/Winemaking Program. The class reviews the different segments of the industry and includes four on-site Saturday visits to explore various wine industry business models and to develop the student's palate for wine. Starting in 2006 the course was developed as a web-enhanced class.
