Related Non-Credit Courses

The following non-credit courses are offered throughout the year as a response to the industry’s need for vineyard and winery workforce skills development. Many of these courses are offered in Spanish.

Winegrape Canopy/Fruit Management
Introduces the growth habits of grapevines. Covers plant processes responsible for patterns of growth, yield, and fruit quality in winegrapes in the context of common viticultural practices. Surveys a variety of winegrape trellis designs and uses. Taught in Spanish.

Winegrape Winter Pruning
Introduces the basic botany of grapevines. Covers winegrape vine pruning techniques. Emphasizes the importance of pruning decisions as related to future crop production and crop damage potential. Taught in Spanish and/or English.

Winegrape Vine Physiology
Introduces the basic anatomy and growth habits of grapevines. Covers winegrape plant health and pest control practices. Taught in Spanish.

Vineyard Sprayer Basics
Covers vineyard sprayer design and function. Investigates product label safety and application information. Surveys vineyard sprayer calibration for tank mixing and product application. Taught in Spanish.

Tractor/Farm Equipment Safety Training
Introduces tractor and farm equipment safety rules and operator guidelines. Emphasizes hazard recognition, pre-operation inspection, regular maintenance, vehicle stability, and highway travel. Covers maintenance and safe operation of farm equipment. Taught in Spanish.

Micro-Irrigation for Vineyards
Introduces micro-irrigation technology for vineyard, orchard, and berry growing operations. Presents product design, installation, operation, and maintenance information. Visits vineyards and farms to observe automated micro-irrigation systems.

Vineyard/Winery Safety and Health
Qualifies for small farm exemption OAR 437-001-0057. Focuses on how to manage safety and health in an efficient manner that also ensures compliance with Oregon OSHA regulations.
