About the Instructors
Joan S. Malling has more than 20 years experience creating and implementing professional development programs for mid-career adults. She has traveled the country working with businesses and organizations helping people build bridges from work to retirement. Joan, along with co-author Sara Brown, wrote How to Create the Life You Want After 50, an excellent guide to creating your ideal retirement.
Kathlynn Northrup-Snyder, Ph.D. is on the faculty at Oregon Health Sciences University School of Nursing and is the owner/consultant of Community Health Concepts. She earned her master's degree as a Community Health Clinical Nurse Specialist and her Ph.D. in Public Health, with an emphasis on health promotion and behavior change, Kathlynn has worked as a community/public health nurse for 30 years. As an educator, Kathlynn believes in engaging students and bridging the gap between theory/research and application in practice. She uses a realistic, fun approach to engage students in an exploration of their potential to live holistically, honoring what they have within to meet this goal.
Paulann Petersen is a former Stegner Fellow at Stanford University whose poems have appeared in many publications including Poetry, The New Republic, Prairie Schooner, and Wilderness Magazine. Paulann’s most recent book, Kindle, like her earlier collections of poems, offers a thoughtful and reflective examination of our place in the universe. Her other books include The Wild Awake, Blood-Silk and A Bride of Narrow Escape, a finalist for the Oregon Book Award and one of the few books of poetry chosen by the Oregon State Library to celebrate the state’s sesquicentennial. Paulann was the winner of two Carolyn Kizer Awards and she received the 2006 Holbrook Award from Literary Arts. She has a busy workshop schedule and she serves on the board of Friends of William Stafford.
