What's Next at Mid-life?

Friday, October 30, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Northwest Viticulture Center, West Salem

XHD667C (CRN 40146) Most baby boomers reject the traditional retirement models for life after 50, but few of them have taken the time to develop alternative models or plans. This workshop helps you do just that – develop your own alternative path.

Here is a chance to examine what's most important to you now, and how to use and develop your skills and interests. Explore how to make plans for yourself and still fulfill family responsibilities. You'll talk about what it means to live your life fully, even with the realities of today's new economic climate.

Midlife expert Joan Malling leads this lively workshop, which uses assessments and interaction to get you started on making your own plan for this new stage of life. Whether you are retired, semi-retired or thinking about retiring, this workshop is bound to give you a fresh perspective on the years ahead.

Cost: $120 includes class fees, morning coffee, buffet lunch and evening wine and hors d'oeuvres. Bring your spouse, partner or friend and the second registration is half price. (Both registrations must be submitted at the same time.) Call 503.399.5181 to register with Visa or MasterCard.

Health and Happiness After 50

Friday, November 6, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Northwest Viticulture Center, West Salem

XHE0576B (CRN 40148) People over the age of 50 are healthier and more active than they have ever been at any time in history. But good health doesn’t come automatically after 50. The more you know about exercise, nutrition, mental health and using medications, the better off you will be.

Join Kathlynn Northrup-Snyder, Ph.D., nurse and health promotion specialist, in a day focused on how to maintain optimal health in your peak years. You will learn about the most critical nutritional and exercise needs as we age. You will find out about how a holistic approach to health and healing may be preferable to a path paved with pills. And you will hear about how a positive mental outlook supports a healthy body and spirit.

The $120 cost includes a light breakfast, buffet lunch and evening wine and hors d'oeuvres. Call 503.399.5181 to register with Visa or MasterCard.

Writing From Life's Richness

Friday, November 13, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Northwest Viticulture Center, West Salem

XWR0002A (CRN 40149) Join Paulann Petersen, Northwest poet, in a daylong workshop dedicated to writing. In a series of exercises using noted poems as springboards, you will have the opportunity to write poetry or prose about some of the people and places that resonate in your life. You may arrive at the workshop with ideas about significant people and places you want to capture on paper, or the models and springboards in the workshop may tap into subject matter you wouldn't have anticipated. Either way, you will have riches for your pen to explore.

Providing immediate feedback on what you write, this workshop will include suggestions for shaping the material that emerges—brief discussions about such elements as imagery, tone, dramatic strategy and voice. All levels of experience are welcome. The goal is for each person to leave the workshop with both a wealth of new writing and the inspiration to shape that new work into poetry or prose.

The $120 cost includes a light breakfast, buffet lunch and evening wine and hors d'oeuvres. Call 503.399.5181 to register with Visa or MasterCard.
