The goal of the McMinnville Learning Center is to provide academic services in a relaxed and helpful atmosphere specifically designed for busy students who need some flexibility in class times. Brush up on your academic skills, prepare for your General Educational Development (GED) tests, or take a self-paced course to improve your vocabulary or writing ability. Available Courses
GED orientation and preparation
The Learning Center offers an orientation for prospective GED students and classes designed to help them prepare for testing. Please see the GED Services page for further details. Orientations are recommended for students interested in taking the GED exam, during which the instructor will evaluate the student's academic needs and explain the GED process. Also available are classes designed to help students prepare for the tests with instruction in specific areas of study. Please see the GED Preparation section for further details.
Credit Classes
The Learning Center offers the following non-transfer credit classes specifically designed for improving college skills:
Spelling Basics SSP013 A,B,C
Strategies emphasizing spelling patterns and rules of the English language.
Academic Thinking and Reading RD115
Prepares students to become active participants in the process of reading college-level materials. It encourages students to build and apply a repertoire of reading and thinking strategies to meet the demands of an academic setting.
Basic Math MTH020
Ability to comprehend measurement and conversion, basic geometry, various fractions applications, practical uses of ratio and proportion, manipulation and correlation of fractions, decimals and percents.
Non Credit
Skills Enhancement
A self-paced, individualized program within Adult Basic Education that offers a non-credit option to college students who need to improve their reading, writing and math skills in order to be successful in college credit classes.
