Woodburn Campus Fall 2009 Highlights
Computer Labs
The Woodburn Campus has two available computer labs for currently enrolled students and community members. These computer labs provide access to technology with bilingual instructional support. Our lab provides free access to e-mail, internet, MS Office software, as well as library research services and support. Websites are limited to appropriate viewing for an academic environment. Computer labs are available outside of class hours only. Stop by our office and pick up a punch card. Hours vary every week depending on class needs; to check if the lab is available call 503.399.8820 or 503.399.5207 from Salem.
Driver's Education
Chemeketa Driver Education program teaches—Line of Sight Path of Travel; Reference points; 10 good driving habits for low risk driving. We are affordable and have classes at convenient locations, dates and times. This program is ODOT approved.
The goal of the program is to eliminate preventable accidents and to prepare young drivers for a complex driving environment. This traffic safety course is endorsed by the Oregon Department of Transportation and includes 34 hours of classroom and 12 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. The program serves students ages 15 through adult. Cost for students with an Oregon instruction permit who are under 18 is $260, and cost for adults with an Oregon instruction permit and/or student with a license is $285. To register students will need a photocopy of permit or license, front and back; a completed enrollment form, and payment. Pre-registration is required. Notification of the parent/student orientation will be mailed after student has registered. Chemeketa Center for Learning in Retirement (CCLR)
Chemeketa continues to offer classes for senior citizens through the Chemeketa Center for Learning in Retirement (CCLR). Over the past 10 years a wide variety of interesting, educational and entertaining classes have kept seniors busy learning and sharing experiences at the Woodburn Campus. Classes run during Fall, Winter, and Spring terms, and cost a fee of $35 for the entire year! Field trips are held during summer term and everyone is welcome to join. Computer Basics -primarily for seniors-
These classes are taught at a comfortable pace with plenty of time to ask questions and receive instructor guidance. Classes are held in the computer lab at 120 E Lincoln St. For more information please call 503.981.8820.
Automotive Repair
General Auto Repair XAU0770B (CRN 76019) This course is designed to provide an in-depth theory and hands on instruction in general auto repair including the service and repair of disc and drum brakes, manual and power brakes, brake system control, and indicating devices following accepted industry safety practices. In this course, there will also be incorporated the following components: Electrical basics, safety in the work place, and under-car service and repair (including Tire Service). In addition, there will be an overview of how current technology is being utilized in the automotive industry. Instructions in Spanish.
El curso proveerá un análisis profundo de la teoría y práctica de mecánica automotriz y servicio general del carro, incluyendo reparación del sistema de frenos, sistema eléctrico, servicio de motor, suspensión y llantas. Además habrá un análisis de cómo se utiliza la tecnología en la industria automotriz para diagnosticar problemas generales.
Auto Body Repair
Auto Body Repair XAUM0001C This class focuses on Basic automobile body repair stressing shop safety, tools and equipment, minor metal straightening, filling, welding, brazing, and heat-shrinking and painting. Instructions in Spanish.

Welding
XWLD9050A Basic Arc Welding This class focuses on Basic principles involved in making fillet welds on mild steel using standard industrial producers, equipment, and the welding (SMAW) process. Includes information concerning other welding process and compares them to the shielded metal arc welding process. Instructions in Spanish.
Esta clases se enfoca en soldado básico tipo arco, incluyendo el soldado de tiras en acero blando. Cubre procedimientos, equipo y electrodos con protecciones durante el proceso de soldado en arco SMAW por sus siglas en inglés.
English Life Skills
English Now! Citizenship Preparation This class provides students with the resources to interpret and complete the Immigration and Naturalization Services Application for Naturalization (form N-400) and prepare them for the oral interview. The course will detail the application process and explore civics and responsibilities of becoming a United States Citizen. The course will also include examination of the functions of local, state, and federal government.
Clases de Ciudadanía: Las clases ayudan a los estudiantes que desean hacerse Ciudadanos Estadounidenses a estudiar y prepararse para el Examen de Ciudadanía. El curso examina las preguntas, la historia y la función del Gobierno de Estados Unidos a nivel Federal, Estatal y Local. Además, examina la Responsabilidad Cívica del buen Ciudadano.
English Now! Working in the United States
These classes provide non-native speakers with English-language practice in the context of work and job related situations. Utilizes speaking, listening, reading and writing activities to practice vocabulary and concepts related to work. Additionally, this course encourages students to be more aware of local job-search resources, to become more involved members of the community and to practice basic goal-setting skills. No prior knowledge of work-related topics is necessary.
English Now! Computer Principles for Spanish Speakers
Introduces intermediate to low non-native English speakers to basic vocabulary patterns connected with computer usage. Covers learning how to use e-mail, basic intermediate word processing, effective use of the Internet Browser and an introduction to MS Excel.
