Grant Funded Programs at Chemeketa
Chemeketa's faculty and staff have a strong record of developing and funding new programs and activities. The following are just a few initiatives supported by external funding.
- The National Center for Resource Studies (NCSR) is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). This program helps to prepare the next generation of technicians who will work in science and engineering fields. Chemeketa's NCSR program has developed curriculum and materials for high school and college faculty interested in natural resource education. The most recent grant focused on fire science and ecosystem management.
Chemeketa has several grants from the US Department of Education:
- The College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) provides support to first-year college students from migrant families. The program's goal is to help students succeed in college. Students take part in mentoring, tutoring, visits to four-year colleges, and other activities.
- Student Support Services provides assistance to students from low-income families or those who are the first in their families to attend college. Participants can receive academic and social support, career exploration, textbook assistance, and other services.
- The TRiO Disabilities Student Support Services assists disabled students with mentoring, tutoring, technology training, and other services that supplement the accommodations provided by the college's Disabilities Services program.
- Upward Bound reaches high school students who are low income, academically talented, and the first in their families to attend college. The program offers students challenging courses and career exploration, tutoring, test preparation, and tours of businesses and college campuses.
- Talent Search & Mentor Program aims to help middle- and high-school students graduate from high school and attend college. The program includes academic support and cultural activities that help students gain the knowledge, skills, and focus to succeed in school.
- The High School Equivalency Program (HEP) provides students from migrant or seasonal farm worker backgrounds with intensive preparation for the GED.
