Alejandro "Alex" Morales expected Chemeketa Community College to be stricter than his experiences in high school.

"In high school my teachers were pretty lenient and I learned that I could turn in certain assignments and not others and still get an 'A' in the class. It didn't serve me well," said Morales.

Approximately $6 million of the bond would be used to add classroom and training areas to Chemeketa's regional public safety facility in Brooks. The 20,000-square-foot building would include tactical training spaces and other specialized facilities. New and continuing education courses in areas such as fire science, first-responder medicine (paramedics and EMTs), law enforcement, and criminal justice would be offered in the facility and allow students training in these related areas to work closely together before they're assigned in the field.
