Chemeketa currently has 30 temporary buildings that are costly to maintain. While the usual lifespan of such a building is five years, many have been in use for more than 30 years. The bond would help replace some of these with a modern classroom building, reducing overhead costs and freeing up general operating funds for teaching and learning.
In addition to adding necessary square footage to meet student needs, the new building would be much more energy efficient than the temporary buildings. In this way, the new facility would help Chemeketa continue moving toward its goal of being a more sustainable community resource.
