Explores basic principles of psychology necessary for enhancing self-understanding, eff ective communication, and development of positive interpersonal relationships. Covers developing emotional well-being, determining values and setting goals, and dealing with problems and changes in interpersonal relations resulting from an individual’s growth and development.

Focuses on a number of important factors for eff ective performance in the workplace. Includes communication styles, developing confl ict resolution skills, employee selection process, goal setting, time management, diversity and cultural sensitivity, stress management, and work conditions. Covers the history of work in the United States.

Focuses on psychology as a science stressing history, methodology, the biological foundations of behavior, human development, sensation, and perception.

Presents an overview to the operation of cognitive processes. Includes principles of learning, memory, cognition, motivation, and emotion. Recommended that students take PSY201 prior to this course.

Covers principles and theories of personality, psychological disorders, psychotherapy, social infl uence, and stress. Recommended that students take PSY201 prior to this course.

PSY206 Introduction to Social Psychology

3 class hrs/wk, 3 cr.

Introduces the problems, theories, and methods of social psychology. Emphasizes diverse ways in which social infl uences alter an individual’s thoughts, feelings, and actions. Examines prejudice, conformity, leadership, and aggression and how they aff ect such events as wars, sexuality, discrimination, violence, and interpersonal attraction. Recommended that students take PSY201 prior to this course.

Introduces human growth and development from genetics and conception through prenatal development, birth, infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and death and bereavement.

Prerequisite: PSY201.

PSY239 Introduction to Abnormal Behavior

3 class hrs/wk, 3 cr.

Explores the psychology of abnormal behavior. Provides a foundation for understanding the nature of psychopathology, diagnosis, and classifi cation. Covers a number of specific disorders, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, personality disorders, sexual and gender identity disorders, substancerelated disorders, and psycho-physiological disorders.

PSY282 Psychology of Adolescence

Introduces major theories, current research, and issues pertaining to early, middle, and late adolescent development. Includes normal biological, cognitive, and psychosocial development, as well as deviant or problematic behavior.
