Camerashrapnel coming to Chemeketa

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

The Los Angeles-based performing group Camerashrapnel will make a one-night stop in Salem as part of its upcoming west coast tour, debuting its new show “ISM at the Chemeketa College Auditorium on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door.

“ISMâ€? dissects racism, sexism, and classism in America through Camerashrapnel’s unique lens: a hybrid of theatre, film, slam poetry, and improv. From the trials of modern day Dungeons and Dragons to the analytical wooden-fence banter of two dairy cows, Camerashrapnel’s latest show explores the strange world of existence and the diverse “ismsâ€? offered for us to join and espouse.

More information about Camerashrapnel can be found on its website.

Film series continues tonight

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

The Chemeketa Wednesday Evening Film Series continues tonight with “The Freshman” beginning at 7 p.m. at the Elsinore Theatre:

From the brochure:
“In The Freshman, Harold Lloyd plays an over-eager college student whose self-consciously funny attempts to be popular on campus are met with ridicule. His best friend and his love interest, Peggy (Jobyna Ralston), advises him to stop pretending to be something that he isn’t. Even though Harold is merely the water boy on the football team, the college’s big game of the year provides an opportunity for success, if Harold can find a way to just be himself. The model for many sports movies since, The Freshman’s popularity and its famous football sequence influenced Buster Keaton’s College two years later and Preston Sturges’ 1946 Mad Wednesday. Shown with a Harold Lloyd short, From Hand to Mouth. 96 minutes.”
