ST100A Occupational Skills Training
Occupational Skills Training (OST) is a work-site-based short-term training program. Students receive hands-on instruction at work sites based on individualized competency-based curricula developed to meet employment requirements in students’ chosen occupations. Presents a self-paced, non-credit course to assist individuals who are currently unable to participate in a full-time Occupational Skills Program due to a disability. Explores community resources, volunteer activities, adaptive equipment and targeted training that supports the ability to function independently in the family and the community without the assistance of others, or a reduced level of assistance from others. Covers analysis and selection of the newest technologies for establishing communications, transportation, movement, and learning. Course may be repeated two times for evaluation to determine reasonable feasibility for vocational rehabilitation. This course is available statewide through a network of counselors from private rehabilitation organizations (PROs) who are under contract with Chemeketa Community College to provide such services.

Offers an individualized On-the-Job Evaluation (OJE) Service to address the need for short-term training in any vocational area for which the trainee is appropriately suited. Focuses on injured workers, VRD clients, or disabled veterans who are eligible for vocational services. Participants normally work 30-40 hours a week at an approved site in the community. Provides training and evaluation services for students who need a work-based site evaluation to clarify vocational skills and to assess capabilities and potential for a designated occupation or training area. Covers exploring labor markets, completing surveys, and/or evaluating job sites for the purpose of potential training. Progress will be monitored weekly through attendance and work habits/attitudes documentation. Prerequisite: None; however, development of an appropriate evaluation site and plan by a private rehabilitation counselor, State VRD counselor, or Veteran counselor is required.
