McLaughlin retakes reins of Chemeketa volleyball
Longtime Chemeketa Community College volleyball coach Terry McLaughlin will return to lead the Storm volleyball team during its 2008 season. Two open tryouts have been slated for February 22 and March 14.
McLaughlin, who took a break from coaching in 2001, said he is eager to get back out on the court.
“Even when I stepped down, I knew I would be getting back into coaching. After 30 years it’s hard to stay away for too long,” he said.
During his prior 14-year run, McLaughlin led the Storm team to a cumulative record of 491-173, a .739 winning percentage, and two championship seasons in 1997 and 1998. His teams accumulated nine top five finishes in NWACC.
“Terry’s competitive spirit and his accomplishments in the Willamette Valley alone speak for themselves,” said Cassie Belmodis, Chemeketa athletic director. “The opportunity to have Terry coaching our volleyball student-athletes is a positive and winning situation.”
McLaughlin’s steady hand and experience in coaching are assets to the team, but he expects to shake things up a bit with his return. Open tryouts have been scheduled for February 22 and March 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. Both tryouts will be held in the Chemeketa gymnasium in Building 7 on the Salem campus, 4000 Lancaster Drive N.E.
