Witty dialogue written by humorist Robert Benchley and a sequence involving Holland's windmills are among the film's pleasures. 119 minutes. Tickets are $5. To Be or Not to Be (Ernst Lubitsch, USA, 1942). Jack Benny and Carole Lombard, star as ham actors in a theater company in Warsaw, closed by the Nazi occupation. Choosing a larger "stage" upon which to perform, the players join the underground Resistance. The plot they hatch to foil the Nazis requires all of their acting skills and nerve. With drama, satire, and black humor, the film ridicules self-important actors and Nazi cruelty. 99 minutes. Tickets are $5. The SS capture Thorndike, but the "game" Thorndike started isn't over. Fritz Lang experienced the Nazi menace first-hand, and fled Germany. Made before America declared war, Man Hunt is a noir thriller, an allegory of pre-War German-British political cat-and-mouse, and a moral argument for American involvement. 102 minutes.
