Teen Interpreter Program (TIP). Mission Mill Museum, Salem. Free. Applications are due by June 15 at 5pm. "Are you a teen who is 14 years of age or older with a flair for acting, a passion for history and a desire to get involved in your community? Travel back through time this summer with the Teen Interpreter Program (TIP) at the Willamette Heritage Center. TIP participants don’t just learn about history, they become history, stepping into the shoes of the people who lived and worked in the historic museum buildings. Through research and a little imagination, participants dress in period clothing, demonstrate past activities and re-enact historic events in the character of a real person living the Salem area between 1834 and 1962. Students also learn crafts and play games from the past two centuries and share what they learn with museum visitors. And while they’re having a great time with other teens, they’ll be learning valuable communication and research skills, increasing their understanding of Oregon’s history, and gaining valuable work experience. To be eligible, students must be 14 years of age or older and must attend four day training sessions on June 21 to 24 from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. Space is limited."
