Inclement Weather Closures
If the college must close due to snow, ice or other inclement weather, notification is made to nearly all media sources in the Portland, Salem/Keizer, Woodburn, Dallas, Stayton/Sublimity, McMinnville and Albany areas. This notification is made by the college to an Internet service that then notifies TV, radio and print media of closures. Information is automatically updated every 15 minutes, on the quarter hour.
The easiest source to determine if the college is closed, or if beginning of classes is delayed, is to listen to TV or radio. Managers at those stations decide what news to air, but most radio and TV stations attempt to list all schools that are closed, sometimes by running an information bar at the bottom of the TV screen. Anyone with Internet capability may also access the web site of http://www.newsbridge.net. The home page of that site lists various regions that input information to the site. To access information on Chemeketa:
- Click on "Portland/Vanc/Salem"
- Scroll down to "Public Colleges & Universities" (the list is alphabetical)
- The first college listed is Chemeketa
- Click on Chemeketa and any closure information will be listed.
If weather conditions dictate, Chemeketa may open later than its normal opening time of 8 a.m. The college will attempt to indicate the time when the college will open. However, some news organizations will use a phrase like "two-hour delay" or "two hours late." This means that the college has delayed opening that day for two hours (or 10 a.m. in this example). If the opening for that day is later than 8 a.m., any class, lab, or other activity scheduled to begin before that time is cancelled. Classes starting after that time are to be held as previously scheduled.
Only closure information is listed on the Internet or provided to the media. If the college is not listed, there will not be a notification on the Internet site or made to media sources.
If closure is appropriate, that decision will normally be made by 6 a.m. Evening classes are never delayed, but may be canceled independently of day classes. In such cases, a decision affecting evening classes and notification of media will normally take place by 4 p.m. Evening classes are defined as any classes that begin after 5 p.m.

"Poor naked wretches, wheresoe’er you are,
That bide the pelting of this pitiless storm,
How shall your houseless heads and unfed sides,
Your looped and windowed raggedness, defend you
From seasons such as these?"
