Winter Term 2014 (Spring Break)

If you are interested in International Studies, Community Development or International Health, this is the class for you! Students will study the themes of international development in 6 Saturday classes in winter term. Then they will travel to Nicaragua to work with community health NGO AMOS Health and Hope during spring break week. Students will participate in grass roots community work and gain understanding of international development work. Important Nicaragua Information, Application Deadline is December 6, 2013.

Spring Term 2014

London, England

Spend a quarter studying in the great capital city of London. London is a major political, financial and cultural center, and through the Oregon International Education Consortium study abroad program you can take in its museums, famous theaters, concert halls, sporting grounds and historic building with a subsidized program of cultural activities. Deadline is December 6, 2013

Spring Term 2014

Oaxaca, Mexico

Build cultural competency and study the concept of education as empowerment in Oregon and Mexico, while participating in international service. Students will examine the cultural foundations of education and compare/contrast educational experiences, attitudes and opportunities in the U.S. and Mexico to gain greater understanding of global and local educational concerns. Students will examine poverty abroad and at home and its implications for student achievement and educational perceptions. Four class sessions meet before the trip, and then students participate in a 10-day educational service learning project in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Summer Term 2014

Costa Rica

Study Spanish and Field Biology/Ecology in Costa Rica. Costa Rica offers our students the unique opportunity to study a lab science class and earn language credits. Students will study Spanish language skills at the Academia Centro Americana de Española (ACCE) in Grecia Costa Rica. Students will experience Costa Rican culture via their homestays, salsa lessons, a cooking class, and tours of Grecia, nearby Sarchí, and the capital San Jose.   Language study is followed up with Field Biology classes designed for non-science majors, that are open to all students with an interest in learning more about distinct ecosystems of the tropics

Students will travel to three distinct research zones: 1) University of Georgia tropical research station, & Ecolodge, in the Monteverde Cloud Forest; 2)  the Palo Verde Biological Station on the Pacific slopes of Guanacaste Province.  3)  La Selva Biological research station and the Cordillera Volcánica Central Biosphere Reserve.

Optional trips (not included in program fee) include a full day visit to Jaco Beach, an excursion to Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall, and a canopy tour with a zip line in the Monteverde Cloud Forest. Travel dates June 27 - July 27, 2014. Application, Deadline is Spring Term

Spring Term 2015

Barcelona, Spain

Study in the Mediterranean capitol of Catalonia. Explore a city as old as its Roman roots and medieval center, but as new as its Gaudi park, nouveau art architecture and 1992 Olympic make-over. This new ten-week program offers activities and courses in Spanish culture, language, modern European history, early American history (including Spain's influences) and mass communications. With sufficient enrollment, additional courses available in humanities. Alternates every other year with London. Application Deadline is October 31, 2012.

Receive up to $5,000 to apply toward program costs for programs 4 weeks or longer. Must meet eligibility requirements.

The Institute of International Education (IIE) works in partnership with U.S. colleges and universities to increase diversity of American students participation in sites critical to the US.

Oregon International Education Consortium (OIEC)

Programs offered through the Oregon International Education Consortium (OIEC) and the American Institute for Foreign Study(AIFS) are open to students form member colleges. OIEC includes Chemeketa, Central Oregon, Clackamas, Mount Hood, Portland, Linn-Benton, and Rogue Community Colleges. Scholarships vary based on program.
