Steps to apply for federal financial aid
Apply as soon as possible, the process can take six months (see recommended deadlines below). You will need to reapply for each school year. Students may apply for the 2015-2016 school year on or after January 1, 2015.
Here's what you need to do
Step 1 : If this is your first time completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you must first request a personal identification number (PIN) at www.pin.ed.gov. You will use this to "sign" your application. If your parent will sign your application, he or she will also need a PIN as well.
Step 2 : Complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov. Chemeketa's federal school code is 003218. If you or the parent(s) that are on your FAFSA filed taxes we recommend using the IRS data retrieval tool on the FAFSA to link the tax information.
Step 3 : When we receive your FAFSA data, we will send you instructions for any additional documents you will need to complete and return to the financial aid office.

Tax returns are no longer acceptable for verification. Students will need to turn in IRS tax return transcripts to verify tax information that has not been linked to their FAFSA with the IRS data retrieval tool. View this tutorial for instructions on using the IRS data retrieval tool.
