Paying for college
Many types of financial assistance may be available to you as a Chemeketa student, including federal financial aid and scholarships.
Students must enroll in an eligible degree or certificate program and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements to be eligible for student loans or to receive federal or state financial aid. The Chemeketa satisfactory academic progress policy has changed based on new federal regulations effective Fall term 2011. As a financial aid recipient you must meet all satisfactory academic policy requirements to maintain your eligibility for financial aid.
Federal Financial Aid
Apply as soon as possible. The process can take 6-9 months from the time you begin the process. See recommended deadlines. You will need to reapply for each school year.
If you're new to college, here's what you'll need to do -
Step 1 - Request a personal identification number (PIN) at www.pin.ed.gov. You will use this to "sign" your application. If your parent will sign your application, he or she will also need a PIN.
Step 2 - Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov Chemeketa's federal school code is 003218. If you or the parent(s) that are on your FAFSA filed taxes we recommend using the IRS data retrieval tool on the FAFSA to link the tax information.
When we receive your FAFSA data -
We will send you a letter with instructions for the form(s) and documents you will need to complete and return to complete your file. When all the required items are completed and returned to our office, your file will move into the review process.
Tax returns are no longer acceptable for verification. Students will need to turn in IRS tax return transcripts to verify tax information that has not been linked to their FAFSA with the IRS data retrieval tool. View this tutorial for instructions on using the IRS data retrieval tool.
You can access outstanding requirements in your My Chemeketa account.
Review can take up to 12 weeks or more from the time financial aid documents are received by Chemeketa.
