Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (Chapter 31)

The Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program is designed to help Veterans with service connected disabilities become suitably employed, maintain employment or achieve independence in daily living.

To receive an evaluation for vocational rehabilitation services, a service member must have a VA Disability (Memorandum) Rating of 20 percent or greater and apply for vocational rehabilitation services.

A Veteran must:

  1. Have a disability rating of 10 percent or greater and apply to the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs for vocational rehabilitation services. 
  2. Have received, or will receive, a discharge that is other than dishonorable.
  3. Submit a completed application for Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program. Time for basic eligibility period in which Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Services may be used is 12 years from the latter of date of separation from active military service or date the veteran first notified the VA of a service-connected disability rating.
