Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs Educational Aid Program
The Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs provides educational benefits for pursuit of approved training courses to qualified veterans. Benefits will be paid for as many months as the veteran spent on active duty, up to a maximum of 36 months. Veterans who qualify for the program are entitled to receive up to $150 per month.
Benefits are paid for classroom instruction, home study courses, and for vocational training from an accredited educational institution. Full-time students are entitled to receive up to $150 per month and part-time students are entitled to receive up to $100 per month. Individual school criteria determine full-time and part-time status. Students must enroll in a minimum of one three credit course and the course must be toward a program that will make the student employable.
- Active duty in the Armed Forces of the U.S. for not less than 90 days; and
- Released from military service under honorable conditions; and
- Is a resident of Oregon when applying for State Educational Aid; and
- Is a citizen of the United States; and
- Served during the Korean War (June 25, 1950 to January 31, 1955) or after June 30, 1958.
To apply, fill out and sign ODVA Form 1004-ME (Educational Aid Eligibility Determination) and submit it along with a certified copy of either the Report of Separation from the Armed Services or Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, DD Form 214, showing length and character of service (Member 4 copy). Students interested in applying for this benefit should visit the Oregon Department of Veteran's Affairs either in person or through their website to obtain and complete ODVA Form 1005-ME (Application for Oregon Veterans Educational Aid). This form must be completed and submitted to ODVA at the beginning of each new term.
