Placement testing

All new students seeking a certificate or degree from Chemeketa are required to take the placement test or submit a placement test waiver. We offer tests administered on computers or on paper –

  • COMPASS is the computer-based placement test
  • ASSET is a paper/pencil version of the placement test. It is an alternative to the computerized test
  • Students with documented disabilities can request accommodations for taking the Placement Test. For eligibility and scheduling, please contact the Office of Disability Services at 503.399.5192 or e-mail

Steps to taking the Placement Test-

  • Apply for admission to Chemeketa (processing time is 2-3 business days)
  • View the online New Student Orientation in My Chemeketa
  • Prepare for the Placement Test
  • Come into one of our Testing Centers with your photo ID and your Chemeketa ID number (K#) to start your assessment if you are going to be a new student to Chemeketa. (Please note: Testers who are taking the placement test for another institution or are taking it for an apprenticeship, there is a $25 dollar proctoring fee, payable by either exact cash or by check when you arrive.)

Salem campus testing

No appointment necessary. Tests are available on a walk-in bases year-round (except holidays and college closure days) Mon.–Thurs. in Bldg. 6, Rm. 216 (Salem campus).

Hours

  • Monday,Wednesday & Thursday, 10 am-5 pm (must begin test before 3 pm)
  • Tuesday 10 am-8 pm (must begin test before 6 pm)

Testing in Dallas, McMinnville and Woodburn

Placement testing outside Salem is available by appointment only. Contact the location to schedule.
