Who is eligible for the Tuition Waiver for 65+?
How will I apply to Chemeketa?
Students will apply online at applyonline.chemeketa.edu.
What does it mean to audit a class?
Auditing a class means that you will not get a grade or credit for the class. Students enrolled in classes for audit will participate in the class to the degree that they and the instructor determine.
Do I have to meet all course prerequisites to enroll in a class?
Yes. You are expected to meet all course prerequisites as defined in the college catalog for the specified course. Prerequisites may be satisfied with a previous course, a placement test, or consent of instructor.
What classes are eligible for this tuition waiver?
Eligible courses are lower-division collegiate CREDIT courses of 100 or 200 level (e.g. ART 101, SPN 111, WR 227, etc.). Non-Credit or fee based courses only are not eligible for this waiver.
How do I register and audit a class?
Students will complete a 65+ Tuition Waiver and Audit Request form with both instructor and department signature. The tuition waiver benefit will not apply unless registration is processed through this form. The form will be available on the public website in the forms directory (Chemeketa Forms), the Enrollment Center on the Salem Campus, or other campus or center front office location.
How will I get instructor and department signature/approval on the 65+ Tuition Waiver and Audit Request form?
Based on space availability the instructor may be able to sign the form during class. The instructor can then direct you to the appropriate academic department for final approval. (For online courses instructor consent will be accepted if emailed using a valid Chemeketa email address.)
When can I register and audit classes?
Completed forms will be accepted between Monday of week 2 and the end of week 4 of the term.
Should I attend the first week of classes before I'm approved to register?
If the instructor indicates that there you will most likely be approved to register in the class you should attend the first week of class in order not to miss any coursework. If the class is full and the instructor does not think there will be space available it is your decision whether or not you attend classes that first week. Attending classes does not guarantee you a spot in the class. You will not be able to participate in any online courses until you are registered in the course.
Where can the 65+ Tuition Waiver and Audit Request form be turned in?
Completed forms should be submitted to the Enrollment Center on the Salem Campus, Bldg. 2, Rm. 200, and any other Chemeketa campus or center front office. For online courses forms may be e-mailed to Enrollment Services. E-mailed forms must come from a valid Chemeketa email address. You may be asked to present photo identification when submitting the 65+ Tuition Waiver and Audit Request form.
When can the 65+ Tuition Waiver and Audit Request form be turned in?
You can submit the approved form beginning the second week of classes. The form MUST be turned in no later than the end of the fourth week of classes.
How will the tuition waiver be applied to pay for the class?
Once we receive your fully approved 65+ Tuition Waiver and Audit Request form it will be routed to Business Services to apply the tuition waiver to your account. This may take a day or two for processing. You should be sure to pay the fees for the class within 10 days of submitting the 65+ Tuition Waiver and Audit Request form to ensure no late fees are applied to your account.
