Planned Giving

As Benjamin Franklin said, the only things we can count on are death and taxes. While we can't do much about death, we can relieve some of our tax burden. In the process, we can also help provide educational opportunities for future generations of Chemeketa Community College students.

Your gift will change lives.

Chemeketa scholarships often make a life-changing difference for recipients. Michelle Mendoza, a beneficiary of the S.O.L. and childcare scholarships, has this to say to the generous donors that make the program possible:

"....I go to school full time. I enrolled at Chemeketa because I knew that if I didn't get an education, that this was going to be me and my daughter's future, that I wasn't going to be able to spend time with her and be there when she needed me, that I was always going to have to be working to pay the bills. And I knew that if I had an education, then some of that might change; I'd have a better opportunity to prepare for our future financially...."

The key is planned estate giving. A good estate plan takes advantage of techniques that often result in our heirs receiving larger inheritances while we invest some of the fruits of our life's work in the community where we live.

You can make a difference in your community while improving your tax situation, often right away. Several methods are available to direct your "social capital." These methods bring the following benefits:

To help interested people leave some part of their estate to charity, the Chemeketa Community College Foundation participates in "Leave a Legacy," a national effort to encourage bequests or planned giving by people from all walks of life.

Leave a Legacy is designed to explain how and why to make a planned gift to a nonprofit organization. Many people who give generously to the Chemeketa foundation while they are alive may not know that they can keep giving after they have died. People can continue to make a difference with a little planning. They just need to know how. Leave a Legacy can help.

Gifts may come in the form of cash, property, an investment or percentage of an estate. While some gifts may be large, many are $100 or less. All are given generally with one purpose in mind, to say thanks for the foundation's good works and to help ensure quality education in the future.
