Pre-Departure Information

The following links may help as you make plans to study abroad at Chemeketa Community College.

Obtaining a Student Visa - International students planning to study in the United States (even if studying for a short time) are required to obtain a student visa. This link will help you understand the visa process.

Student and Exchange Visitor Program and SEVIS- SEVIS is a web-based system managed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). It maintains information on international students and exchange visitors in the U.S. and is designed to facilitate the entry and exit process for international students.

Arranging Housing and Homestay in Salem - Many of our international students live in one of several apartment complexes close to the campus or live with a host family.

Scholarships and Employment Opportunities - Our scholarships are open to all prospective and current students, though none exclusively for international students. In addition, a limited number of part-time jobs are available to international students.

Additional Financial Funding - A number of additional financial resources are available to students wishing to study in the U.S.

Article on Community Colleges - "More international students are attending community colleges. They see community colleges as a starting point in their effort to earn a four-year or graduate degree from a U.S. university."

These centers advise prospective international students on higher education and study opportunities in the United States. For free assistance with the application process and information specific to your country, we encourage you to visit a center nearest to you.

SEVIS Home Page - More information about SEVIS from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a division of DHS.

Visa Application Forms - Link to downloadable and electronic student visa application forms.

Travel and Transportation: US-VISIT - All international non-immigrant visitors to the U.S. (including international students) are required to enroll in this program.  Learn more about it.
