International Student
SEVP and SEVIS

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) is the non-immigrant student and exchange visitor process, converting what was once a manual procedure into the current automated process. This change improves data collection and reporting and helps Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) better monitor school and exchange programs.

The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is an internet-based system that maintains current information on non-immigrant students (F and M visa), exchange visitors (J visa), and their dependents (F-2, M-2, and J-2). SEVIS enables schools and program sponsors to transmit electronic information and event notifications via the Internet, to the ICE and U.S. Department of State throughout a student or exchange visitor's stay in the United States. The system tracks international student or exchange visitor status changes, such as admission at Port of Entry, change of address, change in program of study, and other details.

Beginning September 1, 2004 all non-immigrant students and exchange visitors applying for U.S. visas must pay a non-refundable fee of USD $100 prior to applying for a visa. This fee is required of students from all countries and is used to supplement the administration and maintenance costs of SEVIS.

The SEVIS fee can be paid online using a credit card, Western Union, or money order sent regular mail. After you submit your application for admission to Chemeketa, we will send you detailed instructions on how to pay the SEVIS fee.

The SEVIS fee must be paid prior to applying for a U.S. student or visitor exchange visa.
