Evergreen STEM Institute and Project Lead the Way

The Evergreen STEM Institute at Chemeketa

Evergreen, Chemeketa and PLTW—a Winning STEM Combo

The Evergreen Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Institute is a collaboration between Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, Chemeketa Community College, McMinnville School District, and Job Growers Inc. designed to provide high school students with a high quality education program in science, technology, engineering, and math.

As a student at the Evergreen STEM Institute, you can take Project Lead the Way classes in Aerospace Engineering or Digital Electronics (with classes such as Civil Engineering and Architecture to be added in future years). You would do much of the work online (possibly as an independent study period at your school) and then travel to the Evergreen Space Museum on Saturdays to do the hands-on lab part of the class.

Project Lead the Way (PLTW), a national pre-engineering curriculum, provides the curricular foundation for the institute, and the training for the teachers. If you are an educator and are interested in implementing PLTW in your school, please contact the MWEC executive director.

The next classes to be offered are Aerospace Engineering and Digital Electronics during Spring 2012. Classes start in February and end in early June. Check back here in early January for the application for spring classes. You can even get a sneak peak of what you will learn in each class by taking a look at the course outlines:
