Job Description
HVAC/R (heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration) combines sheet metal and electrical work involving installation, wiring, service and repair of environmental control systems and the fabrication and installation of ductwork. It continues with refrigeration installation, repair and brazing. Successful graduates can also qualify for LE/B licensure and Brazing Industry certification.
Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or GED
- Minimum of one year of high school algebra with a grade of 'C' or better
- HS Math equivalent is Math 60 and Math 70 taken at Chemeketa Community College
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Working Conditions
The work is done indoors and outdoors. Work spaces can range from outdoor scaffolding to crawl spaces inside a wall. Apprentices complete a minimum of 8000 hours of on-the-job training to qualify as an HVAC/R technician.
Minimum Rate of Pay for Journey-level workers
$21.58 per hour
