CeramicsCeramics courses provide the opportunity to become familiar with the physical characteristics and creative potentials of plastic clay materials. Functional and sculptural assignments provide a vehicle for the development of handbuilding and wheelthrowing techniques. The ceramics studio includes all of the necessary materials and equipment for instruction in handbuilding and wheelthrowing classes. It has multiple kilns including electric, natural gas, raku, soda vapor, and wood fired. The studio also has pottery wheels, a slab roller, canvas covered worktables, a humidity controlled damproom, and separate rooms for storage and glazing. This beginning pottery class teaches fundamental techniques of working with clay, including handbuilding skills and working with texture, press molds and colored clays. ART155 Pottery 2-Beginning Wheel ThrowingThis class is a great way to loosen up, develop strong basic skills on the pottery wheel and make useful clay items in the process. ART156 Pottery 3-Intermediate TechniquesThis class builds upon the wheel throwing techniques covered in Beginning Wheel Throwing. Techniques for producing lidded jars, teapots, casserole dishes and other functional pottery forms will be presented.
