Jane Lieber Mays

Instructor in Drawing and Painting

“My artist-teacher sensibilities were formed by a respect for creative potential. This life force is what I try to paint in my portraits, and draw out of students through teaching.”

Jane Lieber Mays began making portraits professionally at age 15, encouraged by her mother, Elizabeth, a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago. Jane’s mother taught her calligraphy, how to paint her reflection in a coffee pot, and the anatomy of a foot for a second grade story illustration. Jane was fortunate to encounter sensitive teachers throughout her education who taught her to see and express her connection to the world through art.
