Laura Mack

Instructor in Painting and Drawing

Laura Mack has been teaching at Chemeketa since 2004. She began her college education by taking classes part time at Salem State College in Salem, Massachusetts in 1989. Her initial training in painting and drawing was completed in Florence, Italy, studying with Rose Shakinovsky and Claire Gavronsky as part of an international college program. Since that year, 1991, she has attended workshops with these artists in Italy, South Africa, and San Francisco.

Her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree was awarded in 1995 by The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston in conjunction with Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. She received her Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth in 2004.

Currently, Laura creates works on paper and mixed media paintings . They depict imagery and text in simple, but nuanced compositional spaces. They are collaged surfaces, layered with materials as well as meaning.
