Submission Guidelines

What kind of work is sought?

Solo and group shows will be considered. The criteria for exhibits is described below.

Who can apply?

Students who have taken at least two credit art classes at Chemeketa in the past year.

When are applications due?

Applications are ongoing. Currently, one exhibit is planned each term. 

How to apply:

1. Fill out the application
2. Prepare 10-20 images of art such as drawings, ceramics, sculpture, paintings, photography, glass, or computer generated illustrations. Accurate reproductions on a CD (jpgs, @ 6 X 8 inches, 300 dpi, all file names to include artist’s name and title of work).
3. If you would like the materials returned, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE).
4. Submit all information to the Art Gallery, Bldg 3, Rm 122.
5. Incomplete application packets will not be considered.

Criteria for the Online Student Gallery Exhibits

Classical Artwork

The work exhibits an understanding of traditional standards of technical and formal knowledge within the chosen medium.

2-D work:  Classical, Renaissance techniques of proportion, value, and perspective in painting or drawing are effectively used to craft a persuasive illusion of 3-D space on a 2-D plane.  In addition, either a classically balanced or a dynamic composition is created, and the medium is handled with control.  Design work employs effectively the traditional principles of visual organization.

3-D work:  Traditional standards of craftsmanship, skillful handling of the medium, and fundamental technical competency are evident.

Abstracted, Expressive, or Visionary Artwork

(figurative and non-figurative)

Whether 2-D or 3-D, the work exhibits modernist concerns. Abstracted work deals with the formal structure of a work of art.  Expressionist work stresses the artist’s emotional attitude toward himself / herself and the world.  Visionary artwork explores the realm of the imagination, especially its spontaneous and irrational qualities.* In such work, the content, the composition, and the handling of the chosen media should exhibit coherence and completeness.

Image quality

Images are clear. Colors are accurate. Images are cropped well with back drops if necessary. There is no extraneous information such as tacks.

Originality

All work submitted must be original with the artist / entrant. Student work done under instruction is considered original. The work must not be a wholly cast or copied rendering of an existing work without attribution to the original artist. Further, the work does not rely on clichéd or kitsch solutions.
