CWE - Student Information
Enrollment In CWE
Getting Started
Cooperative Work Experience, with the exception of Lower Division Transfer students, requires program instructor permission before you enroll. The CWE instructor will meet with you to discuss your career goals and academic progress in the program to determine your readiness to participate in CWE. The instructor will sign the Student Referral form to verify approval for participation. Bring the signed Student Referral form and the completed CWE Application with you when you meet with your CWE Coordinator. Call 503.399.5029 to schedule an appointment.
When you meet with the CWE Coordinator, you will receive a student packet with all the necessary instructions, forms and the Course Registration Number (CRN) for the class.
Important Note: You must meet with the CWE Coordinator prior to starting your CWE experience.
Objectives and Evaluation
Learning Objectives
The student and employer will meet within the first two weeks of the term to discuss and write measurable learning objectives that outline what the student will learn and experience during the term. These objectives will become part of the student's training agreement which is submitted at the beginning of the term. Click here to veiw sample learning objectives. Click here for a learning objective worksheet.
Evaluation
During the term the CWE coordinator or instructor will make an appointment with the site supervisor to discuss progress toward meeting the learning objectives. At the end of the term the employer scores the learning objectives and completes a subjective final evaluation. Students will also need to complete a Student Self-Evaluation at the end of the term.
Documenting your progress
Seminars
Required CWE seminars or individual faculty/student conferences are taught each term by faculty and CWE coordinators. The seminars provide ongoing assistance to students in relating classroom theory to on-the-job-training. They also cover a number of employment related topics.
Homework
Students will need to complete weekly timesheets, reading reports, and/or other research and projects. The requirements for CWE is slightly different for each program and is outlined in the individual program syllabi.
