The Oregon Institute of Technology dental hygiene program at Chemeketa Community College is a bachelor degree program. Students complete one year of prerequisite courses and then apply to the professional program. While in the program there is extensive opportunity for on-site clinical practice, and participation in off-site community programs and clinical rotations. This is achieved through a service learning approach that combines highly effective professional clinical practice with hands-on outreach opportunities.
Recognizing that healthcare will continue to evolve in both knowledge and technology, this program strives to engender in students a commitment to lifelong learning that will enable them to continually adapt to the changing demands of their profession. With this goal in mind, the Dental Hygiene program is designed to develop critical-thinking skills, self-evaluation, and ethical integrity, not to mention a high degree of compassion in patient care.
