Early Childhood Education Associate of Applied Science Degree (98 credit hours)
Chemeketa's Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Education is a comprehensive 2 year option for individuals interested working in care and education programs for children birth through eight, seeking to transfer to a four year institution or to expand their employment options in the early childhood education field. Chemeketa currently has articulation agreements with Oregon State University, Portland State University, Eastern Oregon University and Southern Oregon University. Some courses may also transfer to Western Oregon University.
Students Completing the AAS degree will be able to -
- Plan and implement curriculum in early childhood education settings that support the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of all young children's development.
- Use communication strategies to establish positive collaborative relationships with families and colleagues.
- Self-assess and evaluate professional practices based on a theoretical framework of child development.
- Practice standards for professional ethics as applied to the early childhood workplace environment.
Early Childhood Certificate (56 credit hours)
Chemeketa's one year Certification program is an expansion of the State Licensing requirements. This certificate integrates college math and english as well as Early Child Education courses for a broader experience in infant, toddler, and early childhood education. All credits earned as part of The Early Childhood Certificate may be applied to the Associtate's degree.
Outcomes for the Early Childhood 1 year Certificate -
- Apply Principals and skills observing children from birth to age eight.
- Plan and implement nutritional meals.
- Practice appropriate communication skills both written and verbal with supervisors, colleagues and parents.
- Plan and implement activities for children of diverse ages, backgrounds, and abilities, based on developmentally appropriate theories and observations
Infant Toddler Certificate (15 credit hours)
The State of Oregon requires individuals working in a licensed child care facility to have at least 14 College Credits of Early Childhood Education. The classes offered in this certification are specific to those seeking to work with infants and toddlers under age three. All credits earned as part of The Early Childhood Certificate may be applied to the Associtate's degree.

Preschool Certificate (14 credit hours)
The State of Oregon requires individuals working in a licensed child care facility to have at least 14 college credits of Early Childhood Education. Chemeketa offers a comprehensive program designed for students just entering the early childhood care and education field or for those already working as a child caregiver and need an immediate certificate to continue working in a licensed facility. This basic certificate prepares students to work with children ages two and a half to six years of age. All credits earned as part of The Early Childhood Certificate may be applied to the Associtate's degree.
