Medical Emergency - Accident
Please follow these steps:
- Check for injury before allowing child to move
- Observe for injury, ask what hurts, etc...
- Notify staff person in charge
- If first aid is to be administered put on rubber gloves
- Clean wound, scrape, cuts, etc... with warm water and soap.
Apply Neosporin (if permission has been
given to do so)
- Cover dry wound with clean bandage or gauze pad
- Apply compress to bleeding wound, get staff assistance
- If injury involves more than the need to apply a bandage,
parents are to be called.
- Apply ice to injuries when needed
- DO NOT MOVE a child if there is a possibility
that a bone may be broken or if there is a neck or head
injury.
- Call campus security 503.399.5023 or 9-911
- If child is not breathing use CPR
Illness
- Isolate child in office area
- Take child's temperature
- If normal temperature range: have child rest in assigned area. Observe
child for changes. If there are no changes in 30 minutes,
contact the parents.
- If temperature is 101 or higher call parent to pick up the
child
- Isolate the child until the parent has arrived
Fire/Emergency Evacuation
- Keep children calm
- Teachers are to move children out of the building using the
most accessible exit. If possible exit
from the back of the building and move children to the back fence
area.
- Check rooms to make sure everyone has exited the building
- Take sign-in sheets and emergency forms with children
- Close windows and turn lights out
- Assigned staff person brings first aid kit and does a final
check of the building
- Call roll using the sign-in sheets
- Assigned person to call 9-911
- Wait for further instructions from college personnel
- Do not reenter the building until O.K. has been given
- If the building is unable to be reentered, children will be
taken to Building #34 and if necessary parents
will be contacted to pick their child up at this location.
Campus Closure/Evacuation Plan:
In the event that CCC must close the main campus due to an emergency
situation, the Chemeketa Child Development Center will evacuate to Hayesville
Elementary School located at 4545 Ward Drive NE. Our staff will implement
the plan to do everything in a safe and reasonable means to insure the
safety of your child. Do not come to the Chemeketa campus to
pick up your child! Come to Hayesville Elementary School. We
will contact you by phone once we arrive at the Haysville campus to
let you know of the change in pick up plan.
- Teachers informed that campus will be evacuated: Contact Hayesville
Elemmentary at: 503-399-3153 that our teachers and children are on
their way.
- Determine what the imminent level of threat/danger is and determine
the safest and most reasonable means of evacuation to insure the safety
of all children.
- Prepare children to leave school. Shoes on, backpacks ready, dressed
for weather.
- Meet on playground, same place as fire drills, take roll.
- Take sign-in sheets and emergency forms, first aid kit, snacks,
paper/pens/books.
- Building locked, post sign on front door (if time): "Children are
at Hayesville Elementary School".
- Move all children and teachers to our off-campus evacuation site:
Hayesville Elementary School, 4545 Ward Drve NE.
- Once at evacuation site, start making phone calls notifying parents
of campus closure and pick-up location.
- Staff will stay at the evacuation site until all children have been
picked up by parents.
