General InformationChemeketa's Child Development Center is a model early childhood center for 40 children, ages 2-1/2 to 6 years. Located in Building 39 since its construction in 1972, the fully licensed center is divided into two classrooms for younger and older children. The children represent families of Chemeketa students, staff, and the general community. Some children attend five full days a week, and others attend half-days or whole days for two to five days per week. Parents pay (in advance) $28.75 per full day and $17.75 per half day of childcare. The Center opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 5:15 p.m., Monday through Friday, when college classes are in session. From 7:30 a.m. - 8 a.m. and from 5 - 5:15 p.m. there will be space available for a limited number of children due to teacher ratios. Reservations are necessary to use this time. After 8 a.m., non-reservation children may arrive. Two snacks are prepared and served each day. Parents must provide a nutritious sack lunch. The Center staff includes a director and teaching staff. In addition, this facility is a laboratory for students in Early Childhood Education who first observe and then participate as assistants and later as student teachers under the direction of instructional staff. There is an observation hallway in the Center outfitted with one-way glass windows, and you are welcome to observe. Please notify a staff member when you arrive. The Child Development Center provides comprehensive ongoing curriculum appropriate for each individual child. The program is active and joyful, with a wide variety of experiences designed to foster balanced development: intellectual, emotional, physical, and social. Building a healthy self-image is stressed, within a homelike atmosphere.
