EMT Cross of Life CrestEMT Basic Course
EMT Basic courses offered here at Chemeketa Community College follow Department of Transportation guidelines. EMT-Basic is considered an open-entry program and requires successful completion of the consecutive two-term format. Successful completion qualifies the student to take the State of Oregon and/or National Registry examination(s) for certification as an EMT-Basic. See “Course Information to EMT Basic Career” for detail.

EMT Intermediate
EMT Intermediate courses follow the Oregon EMT-Intermediate curriculum. Students will be required to complete a college placement exam prior to beginning this course. Students must be a currently certified Oregon EMT-Basic before enrolling in this course. Successful completion qualifies the student to take the State of Oregon examination for certification as an EMT-Intermediate.

EMT Paramedic (EMT-P) Degree
Students take general education courses as well as technical courses devoted to Emergency Medical Technology. EMT-P is a limited enrollment program for courses EMT296, 297, 280F. Paramedic program sequence starts in both Spring and Fall terms. Students must apply for admission. Clinical rotations in hospitals and with ambulance services provide hands-on EMS experience. Students earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Emergency Medical Technology. Successful completion qualifies the student to take the State of Oregon and/or National Registry examinations for certification as an EMT-Paramedic.

EMT Paramedic / Firefighter Dual Degree
Students may receive two degrees in as little as nine terms combining general educational requirements with technical courses in Fire Suppression and Emergency Medical Technology. Terms 7, 8, and 9 are devoted to Emergency Medical Technology courses at the EMT-Paramedic level. Paramedic/Firefighter students apply first to the Fire Science program for admission. Upon completion of the Fire Science Program, the student may be eligible for the EMT-P program.

It is also possible for a student to apply for admission to the Firefighter program after successful completion of the three-term Paramedic course, and ultimately earn a dual degree in Fire Science.

Associate Degree Upgrade for Certified EMT Paramedic
This program is designed for the person who is currently a certified Oregon EMT Paramedic and is seeking to further their professional career through attainment of the AAS degree. Current EMT-P certification may be transcripted as college credits to be applied towards the degree requirements.

A person seeking to apply for an Associate Degree upgrade needs to have a transcript evaluation of their previous college credits completed by the Chemeketa Admission's office. This can be accomplished by providing an official college transcript to the Admission's office and completing a form requesting a transcript evaluation.

Distance Education Classes
Chemeketa offers numerous classes through distance education. These include many general education and some technical courses. Refer questions to Emergency Services at 503.399.6242.

Several of the EMT program and general education courses are taught online or as hybrid formats. Please refer to the college schedule for details.
