Paramedic Degree
Paramedics may perform all of the procedures the lower levels can plus give medications, read EKGs (electrocardiograms), and use a variety of complex equipment. Paramedic licensure is the most advanced level of certification. These professionals complete many additional hours of coursework and hands on experience. Due to the length of training most Paramedics hold higher paid positions.
Students interested in pursuing the Paramedic Degree must have already completed their EMT Certification. In Chemeketa's Nationally accredited program, Students take general education courses as well as technical courses devoted to Emergency Medical Technology. The paramedic program is a limited enrollment program for courses EMT296, 297, 298, 280H. The Paramedic program sequence starts in both Spring and Fall terms. Students must apply for admission to be admitted into the program. Clinical rotations in hospitals and with ambulance services provide hands-on EMS experience. Students earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Emergency Medical Technology. Successful completion qualifies the student to take the State of Oregon and/or National Registry examinations for certification as a Paramedic.
