Forest Management Transfer
Program Description
Chemeketa's Forest Management Transfer program takes a "big picture" view of the forest.
The Forest Management Transfer program is a two-year schedule of classes and field labs designed to prepare students to be successful in the junior-level classes at the Oregon State University College of Forestry, in the Forest Management degree program. At Chemeketa, students are provided unique opportunities to participate in many on-site, outdoor, hands-on labs, distinguishing this program from other college and university forestry programs. The labs and outdoor field excursions are rated extremely high in providing students with "real-life" exposure, professional contacts and heightened learning experiences.
The Forest Management Transfer program emphasizes integrated decision making, grounded in the fields of biological and physical sciences, conservation and sociology. Course work in fields such as environmental science and GIS are offered in addition to strong "foundation" courses including dendrology, silviculture, timber cruising and aerial photo interpretation.

I believe that Chemeketa provided me with an excellent opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills for a job in today's competitive workforce. Since my major was in Forest Resources, which is a fairly competitive field in itself, that made the quality of my education that much more necessary - and my schooling at Chemeketa pulled through with that needed quality. The instruction that I had, I felt was top notch, and I have yet to find a rival to the amount of quality one-on-one instruction I recieved in my program of study - even at the university level.
Overall, I feel that I got more than my money's worth at Chemeketa. It helped prepare me for a job, and a career, within the natural resources field by providing specialized classes and work experience, as well as the cooperative skills to make me a successful employee - and now a manager.
