Grow and Use Plants to Create a Greener World
If you are considering a career in horticulture, consider these questions:
- Do you enjoy watching or working with plants?
- Do you like to work outdoors or in a greenhouse?
- Do you enjoy interacting with living systems that respond dynamically?
- Are you interested in a career that contributes to environmental sustainability?
- Do you like to drink clean water? Breathe clean air? Grow food in healthy soil?
If the answer to these questions is yes, explore your horticultural career options further.
Horticulture is the science and art of growing, maintaining, and using plants in managed landscapes. At Chemeketa, we offer a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree in Horticulture. Horticulture students have a choice of two program options:
- Nursery and Greenhouse Management- Prepares students for careers in the nursery and greenhouse industry. The Oregon nursery and greenhouse industry produces trees, shrubs and flowers for landscapes, fruits and vegetables for food production and plants for environmental restoration and ecological services.
- Phytotechnology – Prepares students for careers in a wide variety of environmental or horticultural industries that strategically use plants in managed landscapes to protect and provide clean water, clean soil, clean air, healthy food, and healthy habitats that integrate humans and nature.
