Nursery and Greenhouse Management Degree
The nursery and greenhouse industry is the largest agricultural industry in Oregon. In 2010, nursery and greenhouse sales totaled over $667 million, and over 35% of those sales were generated within the Chemeketa Service District.
This large and diverse industry is looking for employees with a strong horticultural background. The Chemeketa Horticulture program offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursery and Greenhouse Management. The program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary for successful employment in a variety of positions in the horticulture industry.
Nursery and greenhouse management students receive training in basic horticulture, nursery and greenhouse production, integrated pest management, plant identification, ecological horticulture and more. Nursery and greenhouse management students gain on-the-job experience through the Horticulture Practicum and Cooperative Work Experience (CWE) courses. In the Horticulture Practicum (3 credits), students work in the campus Greenhouse, Nursery and Garden (insert link to Our GH, Nursery and Garden page) over the course of a term. In the CWE course, students earn credit for work on an actual horticultural job site.
