Human Services Program
Orientation Focus
The Human Services faculty provides an annual program orientation for individuals who may be entering the two-year professional technical program during either the fall or winter term. It is highly recommended that students entering the program make arrangements to attend the orientation.
The program orientation for the 2008-09 Academic Year is August 23rd from 9:00 - 12:00, Building 34.
The focus of the orientation included:
-
Introduction of the program
- Faculty expectations
- An overview of the first three classes (HS 150, HS 154, HS 170)
- Preparation tips for being a Human Services student
- Identification of Chemeketa services to support students
Financial Aid Support
Staff from the financial aid office attended the orientation to assist with students questions about financial aid and to help expedite pending financial aid applications.
Study Skills Support
A representative of Chemeketa's Study Skills area presented information on workshops available to students to help address common problems such as:
- Anxiety
- Time Management
- Procrastination
- How to Read Textbooks
Networking
The orientation provides a great opportunity for students and faculty to get to know one another. Students enter the program in a cohort, moving through required courses together (not necessarily in the same class).
Feedback from students attending the orientation reflect how important is was to have this introduction to the program.
