Orientation Focus
Post-Baccalaureate Addiciton Counselor Certificaton
The date for the Post-Baccalaureate Addiction Counselor Certification orientation will be held on Monday, February 8th, 2010. Donna Hirt will be facilitating this orientation. Students wishing to enroll in classes effective Spring Term 2005 should attend this orientation.
General Program Orientation
The general orientation for students wanting to enroll in the Human Services program Fall Term 2010 will be scheduled the first part of Spring Term 2010. The specific date and time will be posted on this web site during Fall Term 2009.
The focus of the general program orientation includes:

Introduction of the program

Faculty expectations
- An overview of the first three classes (HS 150, HS 154, HS 170)
- Preparation tips for being a Human Services student
- Identification of Chemeketa services to support students
Financial Aid Support
Staff from the financial aid office attended the orientation to assist with students questions about financial aid and to help expedite pending financial aid applications.
Study Skills Support
A representative of Chemeketa's Study Skills area presented information on workshops available to students to help address common problems such as:
- Anxiety
- Time Management
- Procrastination
- How to Read Textbooks
Networking
The orientation provides a great opportunity for students and faculty to get to know one another. Students enter the program in a cohort, moving through required courses together (not necessarily in the same class).
Feedback from students attending the orientation reflect how important is was to have this introduction to the program.
