After completing the program, what are the job opportunities?
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics- Occupational Outlook Handbook, "Employment [for Medical Assistants] is expected to grow by 31 percent from 2010 to 2020, much faster than the average for all occupations. Demand will stem from physicians hiring more medical assistants to do routine administrative and clinical duties so that physicians can see more patients."
Upon completion of the program, will I be able to work as a Medical Assistant outside of Oregon?
With national certification through the NCCT, Medical Assistants will be able to find positions throughout the United States, however, each state and employer may have specific requirements.
Will this program prepare me for a career in any other healthcare field?
Medical Assistants are well-rounded and highly skilled individuals who segue very easily and naturally into other healthcare education programs and careers, such as Nursing and Physician Assistant.
Is this program offered at other Chemeketa campuses?
No, this program is only offered at the Yamhill Valley Campus in McMinnville, OR. However, during the second term of the program you are earning hours at your externship site which could potentially be closer to your home. Instructors try to place you at sites that are in or near your hometown.
