Curriculum and prerequisites

Welcome to Chemeketa's Nursing program. Please review the details of our program and be sure to ask for advice or clarification to assure you're on the path to reach your goal.

Chemeketa's Nursing Program provides a "career ladder" format that -

  • Qualifies students to test and become licensed practical nurses after their first year
  • Encourages graduates to continue their educational journey and earn a bachelor's and/or master's degree in nursing. We maintain partnerships with several colleges including Linfield College, University of Wisconsin, and Oregon Health Science University (OHSU).

Program Prerequisites

Two courses are required for application to Chemeketa's Nursing program
These courses must be completed by the end of winter term (the year of application) with a grade of C or better

  • BI231 Anatomy and Physiology (completed within seven years).
  • MTH095 Intermediate Algebra (or higher). This requirement cannot be waived by a placement test score.

Note: Chemistry is a prerequisite for BI231. Chemistry, CH110 or 104 or 121 or 221 or successful completion of chemistry proficiency exam are acceptable. A full sequence of chemistry is recommended for students planning to pursue a four-year degree.
Most students spend one or more years in pre-Nursing courses to prepare for applying to the Nursing program. In order to enhance their chance of admission, most students complete the majority of general education and science requirements prior to application.

Criminal Background Check/Drug Testing

Upon entry into this program, you will be required to pass a criminal background check conducted by a college-approved vendor. If you do not pass the criminal background check, program registration will not be possible. If you are arrested during the time you are enrolled in the program, you must notify the program chair of the arrest. Your status in the program will be reviewed by the program chair and the dean, and a possible outcome of the review may be that you are unable to continue in the program. You may also be required to submit to a 10-panel drug screen urinalysis (UA) and obtain vaccinations. Additionally, two-year programs require you to repeat the processes at the start of the second year.
