Chemeketa Communication Systems It is important to get linked into the campus communication system ASAP - preferably before classes start - so that you will be able to receive important campus information and to access resources. E-mail Correspondence is taking the place of paper correspondence from the College. Adjunct faculty are required to frequently check their My Chemeketa email inorder to receive important college information. Business cards are available to adjunct faculty and can be requested through your department secretary. Campus computers are available for you to work on or to send and receive e-mail. You will need a log-in and password which you can get from your department secretary. Campus computers are available in these locations:
FAX machines are available for college business, as well as for personal use, at these locations:
If the FAX is college business, you may pay for it with an account number obtained from the department secretary. Campus mail boxes are available to all adjunct faculty. If you have not been assigned one, see your supervisor or department secretary. You may put your mail box location on your syllabus if you want students to be able to turn in assignments outside of class. It is a good idea to check your mail box whenever you are on campus. Staff IDs are available from Public Safety in Building 2's lower level, 503-399-5023. You will need your staff ID for library/media use. This card can be adapted to act as an electronic access keycard to various buildings on campus. (Requires director approval) Public Safety issues staff IDs during the term from 9 am to 2 pm, Monday through Thursday. Campus phones are available for your use and for retrieving voice mail messages. Voice mail: To request a phone number at which you can retrieve voice messages, contact your department secretary. Your voice mail phone number may be put on your syllabus if you want students to be able to leave messages for you outside of class and you don't want to use your home phone number. You can easily access your on-campus voice mail messages from off campus. Your department secretary will be able to show you how to retrieve messages from off campus. For making or retrieving voice mail calls, campus phones are available for your use in these locations:
Web Presence: All Chemeketa Classes Have A Web Presence With the implementation of My Chemeketa, all credit and non-credit classes automatically have a web presence that contains a Course Homepage. This online homepage contains communication tools such as posting text messages to students, linking them to other web materials, a class message board (discussion) area, and course chat. The assigned instructor for the class can also send email to the My Chemeketa inbox of all students enrolled in that particular CRN. The Course Homepage is available to the instructor and students enrolled by clicking on the "Course Resources" link in My Chemeketa. The heading "Courses I'm Taking" is where students will seelinks to the homepages for classes they are enrolled in. The heading "Courses I'm Teaching" will also appear if you are assigned as the instructor for a particular CRN. By clicking on the name of the course, you will be linked to the Course Homepage. As the instructor, you will see a red Add/Edit link for adding messages and links to materials and other web sites. If you are not seeing a homepage link for a class that is assigned to you, please contact your Director's office. (for help in using these features, see below.) IMPORTANT: If You Are Not Planning To Use Online Enhancements The Course Homepage is created automatically at the time of course input. The use of online enhancements is entirely up to the instructor. If you are not going to incorporate these features into your class activities and communication, it's important for you to post a text message on the Course Homepage to notify your students so that expectations are clear. Without that message, students may go to the Course Homepage and post to the message board expecting their instructor to respond. Click on the red Add/Edit button and in the first description field add a statement such as: Please note that your instructor will not be participating in the Message Board or Course Chat area for this class. Click on Save Changes at the bottom right. This text message will now appear when students access the class. There are additional online features available by posting web materials using WebCT. Along with the messaging features listed above, there are additional tools such as online testing and a gradebook feature. At one time, instructors could access this system themselves. To assist with system efficiency, we are now creating this access centrally, on request. Assistance in using the features of My Chemeketa as well WebCT is available by contacting the Digital Media Lab at 503 399-2335. Many of the instructional secretaries have also been learning about online delivery options and are available to provide assistance with creating and posting online materials.
