Pharmacy Technician Certificate
Pharmacology AAS
Beginning fall 2007, Chemeketa Community College will offer a one-year certificate in Pharmacy Technology and a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree in Pharmacology.
Pharmacy Technology is a vital part of the healthcare delivery system. Pharmacy Technicians are highly skilled individuals who play a critical role in pharmacies. They assist Pharmacists with day-to-day operations so that Pharmacists can spend the time they need to provide quality counseling and care to their patients.
Pharmacy technicians who work in a hospital, nursing home or assisted-living-type facilities have additional responsibilities. In many circumstances, they will read patient charts in conjunction with a prescription, verified by both a physician and a pharmacist, before preparing and physically delivering medicine to nurses, who administer it to patients. This program prepares students for occupations in a wide variety of health service areas. It will also prepare those currently working in the field to take the national board exams, which will be required of all pharmacy technicians after Oct. 1, 2008.
If you’re just starting out or considering a second career, take a look at the Pharmacy Technician profession. Obtain a certificate in 9 months while learning about one of the fastest growing industries in health care.
