Practicum
Students in the SLPA program are required to complete 2 terms of off-site practicum. Over the course of the two terms of practicum, students need to collect and document 100 or more clinical interaction clock hours. As an approximate, students need to plan on being at their respective practicum sites 2-3 days per week during both terms of practicum. Students will need to be present during operational hours to gather and adequate amount of clinical interaction hours. Students may need to make alternate work arrangements to accommodate the schedules of the practicum sites. Practicum sites are likely to be K-12 schools or birth-5 ESD programs. These programs typically operate on a M-F schedule, with approximate hours of 8-4pm daily.
Students engaged in practicum, will be required to complete all documentation relating to practicum placement. Violation of practicum standards is grounds for dismissal. The SLPA Program faculty will assist students in finding possible SLP supervisors. However, the SLPA Program is not solely responsible nor does it guarantee practicum placement and completion. Students must complete a minimum of 100 clinical interaction hours to be eligible to apply for Certification as an SLPA with the Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology and Audiology.
