What courses are available in Theater Arts?

From the time of the ancient Greeks to today's generation, the theater has told wonderful stories and has touched the hearts of many. There are many aspects to this great form of expression: actors to perform the roles, technicians to do the lighting, costume designers, stage hands, backdrop painters and carpenters, and directors to oversee the entire process. TA110 Introduction to Theater will introduce you to both modern and historic theater and the terms associated with it.
To become an effective actor you need to learn many terms and skills. Some of these can be taught through games that promote creativity and improve group dynamics. Other skills emphasize character development through the use of physical, vocal and emotional cues that can refine your performance. You will also be exposed to specific genres, giving an overview of acting styles: classical, commedia, Elizabethan, realism, etc. If you are interested in becoming an actor or refining your acting skills, then you can take TA121, TA122 and TA123 Fundamentals of Acting.
If you want to work behind the scenes in a production, then you
can study the fundamental skills in stagecraft, including scenery
construction, safe operation of theatrical rigging, operation of
sound and lighting equipment. You also will learn how to incorporate
the crew and house management. This will prepare you to function
as a member of the technical production and events crew for an auditorium.
If you are interested in participating in a production team for
the creation, development, rehearsal, construction and performance
of a theatrical production, then try TA285 A,B,C Theater Production
Workshop, TA286 Technical Theater or TA287 Technical
Theater Production.
You may read the formal descriptions for the classes on this page on the Theater page under Course Descriptions.
